Rhode Island Hospital Announces Affiliation With Boston's Brigham & Women's
Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, R.I., has announced a clinical affiliation with Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston for cardiac and emergency services, according to a report by the Providence Journal.The affiliation is intended to attract more patients to Memorial Hospital, including those living in Massachusetts, while expanding Brigham & Women's market share into Rhode Island, according to the report.
As part of the affiliation, Brigham & Women's physicians will provide cardiology and emergency medicine consulting and direct clinical care at Memorial Hospital. Memorial is also planning a $1.5 million upgrade of its cardiac catheterization lab.
The hospitals have signed a five-year affiliation agreement, which can be automatically renewed.
According to the report, Memorial had been unable to recruit a chief of cardiology, and its number of full-time cardiologists has dropped from five to one.
