North Carolina's Duke Raleigh Hospital Continues Expansion Plans

Duke University Health System is continuing plans to transform Duke Raleigh (N.C.) Hospital from a community hospital to a speciality medical campus, including renovations and new technology, according to a report in the Raleigh News & Observer.

Duke purchased the hospital in 1998 and has put $120 million into renovations so far, according to the report. The new plans include expanding the emergency department and operating rooms. Duke has also stopped some services at the hospital, such as deliveries, and has focused on specialities such as cardiology, oncology and orthopedics.

The new plans, which are expected to be approved by the hospital's board this month, will focus on expanding surgical, heart and cancer services, according to the report. Duke has already renovated the patient rooms and lobbies at the hospital.

Additionally, Duke Raleigh's renovation plans include replacing old medical office buildings on the hospital's campus.
