Lifespan and Care New England Resubmit Merger Plans
After a previous merger plan was sent back this summer, Rhode Island-based Lifespan and Care New England have resubmitted plans to merge seven hospitals managed by the healthcare systems, according to a report in the Warwick Beacon.Under the proposal, the seven hospitals — Lifespan's Hasbro Children's, Miriam, Bradley and Newport Hospitals and Care New England's Kent, Women & Infants and Butler Hospitals — would be combined under one corporation called Lifespan. According to the report, Lifespan would control 70 percent of the hospitals.
Regulators returned the application in July because they deemed it incomplete. They will have 30 days to decide if the new application is complete and to review the additional information.
