Illinois County Health System Lay Off 335, Cut 700 Jobs

Cook County Health and Hospitals System has begun to notify 335 employees who will be laid off and has cut and additional 700 vacant positions in order to cut $60 million from its budget, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.

The job cuts will be effective in January and will affect primarily support staff at Cook County hospitals and clinics, according to the report. Some patient-care providers in areas that can longer support the current staffing levels will be laid off as well.

Part of these staff reductions were approved in the 2009 budget, and the others were included in the 2010 budget, according to the report.
