Tulare (Calif.) Regional Medical Center and its parent Tulare District Healthcare System have agreed to pay $2.4 million to settle a whistle-blower lawsuit alleging they provided kickbacks to physicians in return for referrals, according to a report in The Fresno Bee.

Maria Lucy, CFO of Tulare Distract Healthcare, filed the suit last year, alleging that the health system provided below-market rent and land sales to physicians and other groups in return for referrals.

The hospital settled the suit without admitting any wrongdoing.
