Historical Society Asks Judge to Block Two Proposed New Orleans Hospitals

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has asked a U.S. District judge to block the construction of two replacement hospitals in New Orleans' Mid-City district, saying it would ruin the historical district, according to an Associate Press report in New Orleans City Business.

The $2 billion project would replace two hospitals destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. The trust has asked the judge to block development while he considers the organization's lawsuit against the construction of the hospital, according to the report.

Supporters say the development will be a boon for the city, while the trust argues that one hospital could be reopened and the other built in an area that requires less demolition, according to the report.
