Healthcare System May Scrap $102M Hospital Addition That is 40% Complete

Jackson Health System's plans to shut down its Jackson South hospital seem to include scrapping a $102 million, state-of-the-art addition to the hospital, even though it is already 40 percent complete, according to a report by the Miami Herald.
Jackson Health, a public hospital system that primarily serves Miami's indigent population, had expected to attract affluent suburban patients with private insurance to the facility, but 45 percent of Jackson South's ED patients are uninsured.
The system said closing the current Jackson South facility and another hospital would cut costs by $165.4 million and stop the system from running out of cash by May.
