Former Physician-Owned Hospital in Illinois to Undergo $20M Upgrade
The 25-bed Hopedale (Ill.) Medical Complex, opened as a physician-owned hospital 55 years ago, is about to start a $20 million upgrade replacing 90-95 percent of the hospital, according to a report by the Peoria Journal-Star.
In 1955, Lawrence J. Rossi, MD, raised $75,000 from the community and personally guaranteed more than $50,000 for equipment and furnishings for the hospital, which started as essentially an extension of his offices.
The hospital is now owned by the Hopedale Medical Foundation but the Rossi family is still involved in operations.
