Elmhurst (Ill.) Hospital has achieved recognition as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, becoming part of the elite 7 percent of hospitals nationwide to hold Magnet status.
The hospital has been on a journey to Magnet recognition since 2008. The journey culminated with a three-day site visit earlier this year to review all aspects of the hospital's nursing care. Hospital officials have cited a strong nursing shared governance model as the main reason Elmhurst Hospital received Magnet status.
"This is the most prestigious recognition our nurses can receive, so we're very honored to have achieved Magnet status," said Mary Lou Mastro, the hospital's CEO. "It's a confirmation for our patients and the community that our nurses, physicians and staff are working together to create the optimal healing environment at Elmhurst Hospital."
