Diagnoses, Spending for Medicare Patients Vary Widely by Region
Physicians' diagnoses and overall spending levels for Medicare patients vary substantially across U.S. regions, according to two studies in the New England Journal of Medicine.
In one study, researchers found that Medicare beneficiaries had a higher average number of diagnoses when they moved to certain regions.
The other study found that adjusted Medicare spending per beneficiary was 33 percent higher in the highest-spending region than in the lowest-spending region of the country.
