A physical therapist in Troy, Mich., has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud in a scheme to bilk $1.6 million from Medicare, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Jay Jha, the physical therapist, admitted to signing around 336 fictitious files for sham companies that purportedly provided physical and occupational therapy to Medicare beneficiaries.

Mr. Jha, who faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, said he was paid $90-$110 for each falsified claim, many of which were paid.
