COBRA Subsidy for Unemployed to Expire on April 1 Due to Congress' Inaction

A 65 percent federal subsidy to enhance COBRA health insurance premiums for the newly unemployed will end on April 1 because the Senate failed to pass a bill extending it before Congress went into a two-week recess, according to Kaiser Health News.

The Senate has already passed a COBRA extension bill but it is different from the House's and would have to be passed by the House.

The Washington Post said Republicans refused to allow the House bill to come up for a Senate vote, saying its extra spending was not offset by spending cuts.
