Carolinas HealthCare to Open Long-Term Care Hospital

Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System is planning to open a $3.2 million long-term acute-care hospital in Charlotte, according to a Charlotte Business Journal.

The 35-bed LTACH will be on the fourth floor of Carolinas Medical Center-University. It will be a joint venture between Carolinas HealthCare and Carolinas Community Care, a subsidiary of Plano, Texas-based Community Hospital Corp., according to the report.

"One of the things they [Community Hospital Corp.] do and do very well is long-term acute care. The fit seems very good," Carol Lovin, Carolinas HealthCare's executive vice president of planning and communications, told the Charlotte Business Journal.

The LTACH is slated to open in July 2015, but the organizations still need to gain approval of the project's certificate-of-need application.
