The following is a list of 15 companies of note for hospitals and health systems.

Abiogenix (San Diego). Abiogenix created the uBox, a smart pillbox that improves medication adherence. It does so by reminding patients when a dose is due, recording when a medication is actually disposed and sending notifications in real time if a dose is missed.

Acceleron Pharma (Cambridge, Mass.). Acceleron is a biopharmaceutical company that develops and manufactures novel protein therapeutics for orphan diseases and cancer. Currently, three drugs are in phase 2 clinical trials, and results from the trials are expected next year.

Achaogen (San Francisco). Achaogen is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of new antibiotics for the treatment of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. It is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Agile Healthcare (Glenview, Ill.). The Agile Healthcare applications use predictive modeling techniques to understand demand patterns and apply the demand-responsive approach to scheduling staff or equipment or ordering supplies.

Elorac (Vernon Hills, Ill.). Elorac develops prescription products for the advancement of skin care. It has four products on the market that treat acne, warts and psoriasis.

Glaukos (Laguna Hills, Calif.). Glaukos is an ophthalmic medical device company that develops technologies for micro-invasive glaucoma surgery. The technology offers an alternative to traditional glaucoma treatments.

InQuicker (Nashville, Tenn.). InQuicker provides an online waiting service for participating emergency rooms, urgent care centers and physician's offices. Patients can find a participating provider online; put their name on the waiting list and then show up for their appointment time without waiting in the physician's office.

NeuroPace (Mountain View, Calif.). NeuroPace develops and markets implantable devices for the treatment of neurological disorders. NeuroPace was originally focused on treating epilepsy, but the responsive neurostimulation the company is developing could treat other medical disorders as well.

Novian Health (Chicago). Novian Health developed and markets technology for a minimally-invasive procedure for the ablation of breast tumors. This technology provides an alternative to surgical removal of tumors.

Oasis Health International (Tampa, Fla., and Atlanta). Oasis Health International provides resources for hospital management, strategic consulting and planning, construction, project management and investment. Oasis Health International has overseen projects for Premier, Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, Tenet Health and BayCare Health System.

PatientSafe Solutions (San Diego, Calif.). PatientSafe Solutions creates patient safety systems for hospitals. Their electronic health record infrastructure aims to drive measurable results across patient safety, clinical quality and care team effectiveness.

Pinnacle Biologics (Bannockburn, Ill.). Pinnacle Biologics develops and manages new approaches to the commercialization of products in oncology and specialty areas. The company licenses and acquires specialty pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

SA Ignite (Chicago). SA Ignite builds healthcare IT software products that enable improved electronic health records usage. The company's software streamlines the meaningful use reporting process and automates the identification of root causes behind usage problems.

Sagent (Schaumburg, Ill.). Sagent is a public pharmaceutical company that provides specialty injectable products.

Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers of America (Tampa, Fla.). Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers of America performs specialized treatment for patients with mild, moderate and severe sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers of America offers alternatives to the existing treatment of sleep apnea.
