Woman uses fake credentials to work as a nurse at Reedsburg Medical Center

A Wisconsin woman faces numerous felony charges after using false credentials to work as a nurse at Reedsburg (Wis.) Area Medical Center, according to WISC-TV.

The Reedsburg Police Department filed a criminal complaint against 40-year-old Jennifer Browne for one count of felony identity theft for financial gain and four counts of obstructing an officer, according to the article.

The complaint alleges Ms. Browne obtained a Milwaukee woman's nursing credentials which she used to gain employment at the medical center. She reportedly worked at the medical center from May 31 to Aug. 22 until hospital authorities realized her false credentials and subsequently fired her, according to the article.

Investigators discovered Ms. Browne also used the same fraudulent credentials to obtain a nursing position in Wausau, Wis. An similar investigation is currently underway in the Wausau area, according to the article.

Robert Van Meeteren, president and CEO of Reedsburg Area Medical Center, said the hospital has implemented additional precautions and procedures to identify criminal activity. Mr. Van Meeteren also claimed the medical center is "working with state health officials and lawmakers to better protect access to licenses and the verification process for all Wisconsin hospitals," according to the article.

According to hospital officials Ms. Browne's activities did not harm patient care during that time.
