Proposed bill would require employers to disclose contraception objections to employees

The Preventative Care Coverage Notification Act, sponsored by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Mark Begich (D-Ala.), would require businesses to inform prospective and current employees whether they provide free contraception coverage in their health plans, according to a report from The Hill.

The bill would require employers to tell employees if there are any services guaranteed by law that they will not cover, including contraception.

The legislation was proposed in response to the Supreme Court ruling last month, where, in a 5-4 decision, the justices decided for-profit businesses may refuse to provide their female employees with insurance coverage for contraceptives if the owners have religious objections to certain forms of birth control.
