Pennsylvania has settled U.S. government claims it violated federal law by providing benefits to ineligible immigrants under three federal programs for $48.8 million, according to a Reuters report.
The U.S. Department of Justice claimed the state provided the improper benefits under Medicaid, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps) between 2004 and 2010.
Although Pennsylvania agreed to pay $48.8 million to the federal government in 20 equal quarterly payments until Dec. 31, 2019, the state's Department of Human Services did not admit to any liability in the agreement.
