Mass. bill would cap disparities in commercial payments to hospitals for same procedure

Staff -

The Massachusetts Joint Committee on Health Care Financing will hear testimonies Sept. 22 on a bill that would limit price disparities between procedures by regulating private insurers, according to MassLive.com.

The bill, which is sponsored by State Senator Ben Downing (D), would prevent private insurers from paying over 20 percent above or 10 percent below the average price paid to similar hospitals.

The bill is supported by 1199SEIU, a healthcare workers union. The union and other advocates will be gathering signatures Sept. 22 to get a similar question on the Nov. 2016 ballot.
