King v. Burwell: 9 questions to be discussed at webinar

Russell W. Sullivan, currently a senior advisor to McGuireWoods Consulting and former chief of staff to Senator Max Baucus (Mont.-D.), was closely involved in the drafting of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In a special webinar on March 11, Mr. Sullivan will address the following questions regarding the King v. Burwell Supreme Court case and more. We encourage you to join us for this focused discussion.

1. What do you think will be the outcome of the case?

2. What will happen with the roughly 5 million to 6 million people who have received subsidies in states via federal exchanges?

3. What impact would a ruling for the plaintiffs have on businesses?

4. Will states add exchanges?  Currently 36 states have not added state run exchanges.

5. Wasn't the intent of the law as written to encourage states to set up exchanges?

6. In 2012, the IRS decreed that subsidies would be extended to all states, not just those with state exchanges. Can the IRS do this?

7. How will this impact providers?

8. How will this impact insurance companies?  Will it lead to a raising of premiums for the privately insured?

9. Where will the 5 to 6 million people with federal subsidies for health insurance now go for coverage? Will they go to the same places the uninsured have always gone?
