Former hospital CFO files discrimination complaint, says he was fired for being gay

The former CFO of Morton (Wash.) General Hospital has filed a discrimination complaint with the Washington State Human Rights Commission and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the hospital alleging he was fired because he is gay, according to The Chronicle.

Eric Carlson began his role as Morton General Hospital's CFO Nov. 24, 2014, and he was fired Jan. 5.

In his letter to the EEOC, Mr. Carlson said, "In the beginning, I was heavily praised for my improvement to the hospital…However, as word circulated around the workplace of my homosexuality, the conditions began to deteriorate," according to the report.

Seth Whitmer, Morton General's former CEO, is the one who fired Mr. Carlson. Mr. Whitmer, who was fired in March, has a pending religious discrimination complaint against the hospital, according to the report.

Mr. Carlson blames the hospital's board, not Mr. Whitmer, for what happened to him. "I'd say it's my duty to see this through and to hold the board accountable for their discriminatory actions," said Mr. Carlson, according to the report.

Citing privacy concerns, members of the hospital's board of commissioners previously refused to comment on Mr. Carlson's firing, according to the report.
