California physician gets 3 years for role in fraud scheme

Neil Van Dyck, DPM, of Roseville, Calif., has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined $10,000 for his role in a healthcare fraud scheme, according to the Department of Justice.

Dr. Van Dyck operated Placer Podiatry in Roseville. According to court documents, he submitted more than $2.8 million in fraudulent claims to government and private payers.

Dr. Van Dyck submitted fraudulent claims for treatments performed by unlicensed staff. He also falsely claimed he performed more expensive procedures than he actually provided and altered patients' medical records to justify his fraudulent bills.

Dr. Van Dyck was previously ordered to forfeit $1.2 million from a retirement account where proceeds of the fraud scheme were traced, according to the DOJ.
