5 latest healthcare industry lawsuits

From Cincinnati-based Mercy Health's CEO suing Service Employees International Union for defamation to health insurer Anthem being hit with another lawsuit over its recent data breach, here are the latest healthcare industry lawsuits.

1. Mercy Health CEO sues SEIU for defamation
Michael Connelly, president and CEO of Cincinnati-based Mercy Health, filed a defamation and invasion of privacy lawsuit against Service Employees International Union No. 1199.

2. Whistle-blower lawsuit sparks federal probe of Humana
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana disclosed in a regulatory filing that it is the subject of a federal probe, which is related to a qui tam, or whistle-blower, lawsuit filed against the health insurer.

3. Anthem hit with another class-action lawsuit over data hack
Following the lead of residents in other states, Colorado residents whose information may have been compromised by the data breach Anthem recently experienced filed a class-action lawsuit against the insurer.

4. $2M lawsuit filed against Doctors' Hospital of Michigan
A lawsuit was filed against Doctors' Hospital of Michigan in Pontiac, seeking repayment of nearly $2 million that was loaned to the hospital between April 2013 and May 2014.

5. Class-action lawsuit against St. Joseph dismissed
A class-action lawsuit over a data breach in 2013 at Bryan, Texas-based St. Joseph Services, which includes a health system and hospital, was dismissed Feb. 11 for lack of standing.
