Trumbull Memorial Hospital to cut 47 nursing positions

Warren, Ohio-based Trumbull Memorial Hospital plans to eliminate 47 licensed practical nursing positions, according to a WFMJ report.

The LPNs are members of the Service Employees International Union. According to the report, the hospital's system, ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, has been in discussions with the union since May about transitioning to a staffing model that uses solely registered nurses and nursing assistants.

The union says this move violates its current agreement with ValleyCare and Trumbull Memorial. "We've filed a grievance and plan to take it through arbitration if we need to, we've also filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board because this move is in direct violation of the collective bargaining agreement that is in place," Anthony Caldwell, a union spokesman, told WFMJ.
