VICE PRESIDENT, QUALITY

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT
Under the direction of Region’s Chief Executive Officer, working in partnership with HealthPartners leadership and medical staff leadership provides leadership and development to:

Drive clinical quality, safety and operational performance improvement initiatives which are coordinated across functions and aligned with operational strategy throughout Regions Hospital and HealthPartners. Specifically, ensure Regions Hospital is positioned to achieve triple aim results in healthcare delivery; low costs, excellent quality, and optimum patient experience. Responsible for the strategic development, planning, control and oversight of the hospital’s quality and safety programs.

This role requires an exceptional leader with proven ability to utilize strong process, data-driven analytical and communication skills to identify the processes, systems and/or practices that lead to sub-optimal performance and successfully resolve these issues through process simplification, reengineering and change management. This challenging position cuts across the entire organization and will provide the opportunity to have a substantial and lasting impact on the business. This executive will be a strategic business partner and an integral member of the senior leadership team who establishes the strategic goals and objectives for Regions hospital, specifically in the People, Experience, and Health dimensions.

The Vice President of Quality will drive the development of Regions Hospital performance excellence strategy that integrates quality, safety and performance improvement efforts to position Regions Hospital to achieve best in class and in market quality results. The Vice President of Quality initiates and oversees the development, planning, administration, and monitoring of consistent readiness of all quality management, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement processes. The Vice President of Quality will oversee and coordinate all hospital efforts to monitor, maintain compliance, and fosters collaborative relationships with all regulatory, State, Federal government, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization standards and other stakeholders (fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with external agencies related to quality initiatives). Oversees a comprehensive Quality and Safety program in efforts to improve the clinical quality and safety of patients, visitors, and employees and makes recommendations for performance improvement activities related to quality and safety. Oversees reporting of events as required by regulatory agencies in collaboration with Corporate Compliance/Risk Management/Legal Affairs. Coordinates and oversees data collection and analysis, reporting and improvement activities, and follow-up related to clinical quality, safety, and experience. Assures effective execution of initiatives and business strategies by aligning operation and business needs by developing a culture which builds leader commitment that reinforces excellence in quality, performance and services.

This position has oversight for and provides strategic direction to the following operational areas of Performance Improvement, Quality, Data/Measurement, Patient Safety and Infection Prevention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, business or hospital administration.

Experience:

  • Ten (10) years leadership/management and operations experience with at least 2 years’ experience functioning at the strategic positioning level of a health care/clinical business unit and a background in quality, performance improvement, etc.
  • Demonstrated track record achieving superior results that demonstrate performance improvements and quality and service outcomes. 
  • Knowledge of LEAN/Six Sigma preferred. 
  • Highly oriented toward employee engagement and communication, and development of a high-performance culture. Demonstrates effective problem-solving techniques, understanding of Continuous Improvement, and experience leading culture transformation.
  • The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the team approach and be able to mentor his/her direct reports. This implies the individual will empower others, serve as a mentor, and have strong motivational skills. 
  • Prior experience working as part of a multisite organization or system is important. Must act as a team member, supporting common system goals.

  • Demonstrated political savvy - Ability to operate in politically complex situations and remain effective, challenge the “status quo”
  • Knowledge of hospital delivery system operations
  • Strong financial management, data and statistical analysis skills
  • Ability to identify, understand and manage project and business risk
  • Ability to use information and data to drive change and improvement. Analytical ability to conceptualize well in unstructured, dynamic, and/or multidisciplinary environments requiring analysis, foresight, intuition and mature judgment as well as a thorough knowledge of fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and practices of several disciplines to find solutions to unusual or unprecedented problems

Licensure/Registration Certification:

  • Clinical Practice License desirable including, but not limited to physician, registered nurse, social worker, informatics, etc.
