Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health System officials said they are trying to fill 270 vacant positions at the health system, ranging from food service to leadership roles, according to the Lansing State Journal.
Officials said nursing roles constitute the bulk of the 270 vacant positions.
The health system hired roughly 150 nursing school graduates and 130 registered nurses in 2016, and will continue to recruit candidates to sustain its large size, according to the article. The health system employs roughly 2,000 nurses across all of its campuses.
"Our turnover rate for bedside nurses is about 8.8 percent," said Sparrow Health System Team Lead and Nurse Recruiter Megan Wills. "The national benchmark is around 14.5 percent, so we're doing much better than average. Something that plays into that is we have so many opportunities. We're large, and we have a lot of professional development."
