Mississippi health system cuts back on security staffing

Meridian, Miss.-based Rush Health Systems will cut security at three area hospitals July 31, reports The Meridian Star.

The health system previously had security contracts at the following Mississippi hospitals: Quitman-based H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital; De Kalb-based John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital; Morton-based Scott Regional Hospital; and Union-based Laird Hospital, Billy Pat Walker, who is Union Security co-owner and Union Police Chief, told the publication. Contracts affected by the security cuts are H.C. Watkins, John C. Stennis and Scott Regional.

In the report, Mr. Walker estimated there are approximately 10 affected part-time and full-time employees.

Rush Health Systems declined to comment on security staffing to The Meridian Star.

In June, Rush Health Systems said it is cutting 112 jobs, or 4 percent of its total workforce.
