Enrollment issues at community college could pinch staffing at San Francisco hospitals

Staffing at San Francisco hospitals could see changes if a local community college continues to see enrollment decline, reports The San Francisco Examiner.

Here are four things to know.

1. The City College of San Francisco, which is struggling financially, has graduated more than 75 percent of the radiology staff at San Francisco General Hospital and 50 percent of the radiology workforce at UC San Francisco, representatives of the hospitals said in the report.

2. However, the future of CCSF's Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program, among other departments, remains uncertain. Student enrollment has declined by one-third since 2012 when the college began encountering accreditation issues, reports The San Francisco Examiner. By early in 2017, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges will have decided whether CCSF may remain open and accredited, the report notes.

3. CCSF would have lost funding related to enrollment without stability funding from the state, according to the report. However, the college is expected to lose about $35 million n 2017, when the stability funding expires, the report states.

4. Without an increase in enrollment, CCSF will have to cut more courses and reduce its class schedule, according to the report.
