Becker's Hospital Review has named "100 Hospitals With Great Heart Programs."

The Becker's editorial team selected these hospitals based on recognition for quality care, clinical awards and research contributions to cardiovascular care. These hospitals have received recognition as outstanding providers of cardiovascular services by U.S. News & World Report, Truven Health Analytics, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Note: This list is not an endorsement of included hospitals or associated healthcare providers, and hospitals cannot pay to be included. Hospitals are presented in alphabetical order.

Abbott Northwestern Hospital (Minneapolis). The physicians at the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital have a 96 percent patient recommendation rate and treat tens of thousands of patients each year. The institute provides highly specialized services, such as its center for genetic arrhythmias. The institute recently earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 25 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery.

Adventist Medical Center (Portland, Ore.). Northwest Regional Heart and Vascular at Adventist Medical Center is one of three accredited chest pain centers in Oregon. Adventist Medical Center was one of 164 hospitals to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard of care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Advocate Christ Medical Center (Oak Lawn, Ill.). The Heart and Vascular Institute at Advocate Christ Medical Center has performed the most open-heart surgeries of any hospital in Illinois. Advocate Christ Medical Center was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery in 2013-14. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Allen Memorial Hospital (Waterloo, Iowa). Allen Memorial Hospital's Allen Heart and Vascular Center is one of 164 hospitals nationwide to receive two consecutive "exceptional heart care" ratings from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. Allen Memorial is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care. It was named to Truven Health Analytics' 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.

AnMed Health (Anderson, S.C.). AnMed Health Heart and Vascular Center offers comprehensive cardiac services, cardiac rehabilitation and access to cardiovascular research trials. AnMed is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Aspirus Wausau (Wis.). Hospital. Aspirus Wausau's Aspirus Heart and Vascular Institute prides itself on its 30-minute door-to-balloon time for patients experiencing cardiac arrest. Aspirus Wasau is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care, and it has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center (Milwaukee). Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center's Cardiac Specialty Center specializes in the treatment of complex heart conditions, including adult congenital heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Marfan's syndrome and valvular heart disease. Aurora St. Luke's was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of 50 hospitals with top cardiology and heart surgery programs in 2013-14.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). The Heart and Vascular Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital cares for the largest number of cardiac patients in the St. Louis area and features a 21-bed cardiac intensive care unit for postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery care. Barnes-Jewish was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of 50 hospitals with top cardiology and heart surgery programs in 2013-14.

Baptist Hospital East (Louisville, Ky.). Baptist Hospital East provides comprehensive cardiology services and programs, including its Congestive Heart Failure Clinic and Cardiovascular Heart Awareness Program. The center is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and was one of 164 hospitals to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard care for heart attack patients.

Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital (Dallas). Baylor Heart and Vascular Center was the first hospital in North Texas dedicated to the exclusive care of cardiovascular patients. The hospital has received extensive accolades from many major healthcare organizations recognizing its excellence in care, including The Joint Commission, the American Heart Association, The American College of Cardiology Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American Nurses Credentialing Center, among others.

Beaumont Hospital (Royal Oak, Mich.). Beaumont Hospital's Heart and Vascular Center of was the first to prove the usefulness of 64-slice CT scanners in locating coronary blockages in acute chest pain patients. The hospital was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of 50 hospitals with top cardiology and heart surgery programs, and it is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital (Richmond, Va.). The Bon Secours Heart and Vascular Institute was the first in the world to offer digital cardiac imaging through the Inova 2000, the all-digital X-ray cardiovascular imaging system. Bon Secours St. Mary's has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center.

Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston). Physicians at the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center at Brigham and Women's performed the first successful heart valve surgery in the world and has continued to be an innovator in cardiovascular research and technology. The hospital earned a spot on U.S. New & World Report's 50 hospitals with top heart and heart surgery programs.

Bronson Methodist Hospital (Kalamazoo, Mich.). Bronson Methodist Hospital consistently ranks among top hospitals for heart attack care and heart surgery. Bronson Methodist was one of 164 hospitals to earn the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Carolina Regional Heart Center (High Point, N.C.). Carolina Regional Heart Center, part of High Point (N.C.) Regional Health System, earned the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

CarolinaEast Medical Center (New Bern, N.C.). CarolinaEast Medical Center's CarolinaEast Heart Care is a state-of-the-art, full-service cardiac program, complete with the first lifestyle modification-based cardiac rehabilitation program in the Eastern U.S. CarolinaEast Medical Center is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center and has been recognized for cardiac excellence by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte, N.C.). Carolinas Medical Center's Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute is the Charleston region's only heart transplant center, and it offers award-winning pediatric cardiac and adult open-heart surgery, as well as cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital has earned many accolades, including recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. It is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, as well.

CaroMont Health (Gastonia, N.C.). CaroMont Health, formerly known as Gaston Memorial Hospital is affiliated with Columbia HeartSource, an outreach program form New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. CaroMont recently earned recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Specialists at the Heart Institute at Cedars Sinai have performed the most heart transplants in the last two years of any hospital in the country. The center earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report's top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery.

Centerpoint Medical Center (Independence, Mo.). Centerpoint Medical Center is the largest provider of heart care in the Kansas City, Mo.-area. The hospital has earned recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation, is accredited by the National Society of Chest Pain and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

The Christ Hospital (Cincinnati). The Heart and Vascular Center at Christ Hospital is currently holding clinical trials for two interventional cardiology devices. The Christ Hospital is also devoted to educating patients on heart function and heart disease. It has received recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation, and was also named to Truven Health Analytics' 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.

Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic's Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute is the largest cardiovascular practice in the country, also treating the largest volume of heart and vascular patients out of any other hospital. Among other accolades, it was named as the top hospital in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. New & World Report's for 2013-14. This is Cleveland Clinic's 19th consecutive year in the top spot.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center (Upland, Pa.). Crozer-Chester Medical Center is a leader in establishing specialty cardiac programs for surgery and rehabilitation in its region, especially in open heart surgery and angioplasty. The hospital earned the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2013, recognizing the hospital's high standard care for heart attack patients. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center.

 


 

Duke University Medical Center (Durham, N.C.). The Duke Heart Center is the analytic epicenter of many heart research programs, including data collection efforts from the American College of Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Heart Association. The hospital earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report's 2013-14 list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery.

Emory University Hospital (Atlanta). Emory Heart and Vascular Center in Atlanta treats more than 13,000 patients per year. Emory physicians helped lead the transition from open-heart procedures to minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, and the center continues to be a major player in international research trials. Consistently recognized on U.S. News & World Report's list, the center again earned a spot on the 2013-14 edition of 50 hospitals with top heart and heart surgery programs.

Florida Hospital (Orlando). Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute handles more than 70,000 cases each year.  The institute has a reputation for innovation and offers patients access to clinical trials. It was named as one of the top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2013-14.

Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center. Hackensack University Medical Center describes its Heart and Vascular Hospital as a "hospital within a hospital," which to Hackensack means it subscribes to a multidisciplinary approach to heart care. The hospital was recently named as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.  

Hahnemann University Hospital (Philadelphia). Hahnemann's heart care specialties include cardiothoracic surgery, catheterization and peripheral vascular services, echocardiography, electrophysiology, heart failure and transplant and nuclear cardiology. The nearly 200-bed hospital is recognized by the American Heart Association for its treatment of coronary artery disease and heart failure. Hahnemann recently earned a spot on the U.S. News & World Report's top 50 hospitals for cardiology and cardiac surgery.

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). Penn Heart and Vascular at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania is regularly recognized, both domestically and abroad, for its cardiovascular research and care. Among its accolades, the hospital earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery in 2013-14.

Houston Methodist Hospital. The DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center at Houston Methodist Hospital invests in training the next generation of cardiovascular leaders, hosting the Cardiovascular Fellow's Bootcamp, a program that teaches trainees about the latest advances in cardiovascular medicine. The center was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's 2013 top 50 hospitals for heart and heart surgery. It is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital. Huntsville Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited disease management specialty clinic, has a five-star rating for cardiac surgery from Healthgrades and is celebrating recognition from the American Heart Association's "Get With the Guidelines" program for coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke. The hospital is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Integris Baptist Medical Center (Oklahoma City). Through its Advanced Cardiac Care program, Integris Baptist Medical Center boasts three-year survival rates as high as 80 percent after heart transplants. It recently earned recognition as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and is recognized for heart attack care excellence by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

IU Health Methodist Hospital (Indianapolis). Under IU's cardiovascular program, IU Health Methodist specialists recently implanted the first artificial heart transplanted in Indiana. The hospital embodies this excellence throughout its comprehensive heart surgery and heart care program, having been named to the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care for the second year in a row in 2013-14.

John Muir Medical Center (Concord, Calif.). John Muir Medical Center offers prevention and wellness services and a heart program specifically designed for women. The hospital is one of three in the Bay Area participating in clinical trials for transcatheter aortic valve replacements. It has been recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore). The Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute s heavily involved in cutting-edge cardiovascular research, including recent research on heart disease prevention and effects of heart medications such as statins. The institute has an accredited chest pain center and is a Blue Distinction Center. It has earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery in 2013-14.

Lancaster (Pa.) General Hospital. Physicians at Lancaster Heart & Vascular Institute perform more heart procedures than those at any other heart center in its area, and the hospital has one of the lowest heart attack readmission rates in the country. It recently earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report's 2013-14 list of top 50 hospitals for cardiac care, and is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Lehigh Valley Hospital (Allentown, Pa.). Leigh Valley Heart and Vascular Center has the fifth largest heart program in Pennsylvania and consistently ranks among the top one percent of hospitals for heart attack survival. Lehigh Valley recently earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery.

Lenox Hill Hospital (New York City). Physicians at Lenox Hill were the first to perform several procedures in the United States, including the first angiogram and the first drug-coated stent implantation. U.S. News & World Report included Lenox Hill as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for heart care in 2013-14.

Liberty (Mo.) Hospital. The Heart and Vascular Center at Liberty Hospital has received several awards, including the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for its high standards in heart attack care. The center is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Loyola University Medical Center (Maywood, Ill.). Loyola University Medical Center's department of cardiology has received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence and earned a place as one of the top 20 hospitals in the country for heart care from U.S. News & World Report in 2013-14.

Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). The origin of Massachusetts General's cardiovascular services dates back nearly 100 years. Scientists at its Cardiovascular Research Center recently identified a master heart stem cell that is critical for the recreation of heart tissue to repair damaged hearts. U.S. News & World Report named Massachusetts General as one of the top 10 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). Physicians in the department of cardiology and vascular medicine at Mayo Clinic treat 55,000 patients each year. The department is heavily involved in patient education and has a book for commercial sale: Mayo Clinic Heart Healthy for Life! Truven Health Analytics named it to its 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012, and U.S. News & World Report named Mayo Clinic as one of the top hospitals in the country for heart care in 2013-14.

McLaren Bay Region (Bay City, Mich.). McLaren Bay Region's Bay Heart and Vascular center is committed to making care accessible and transparent to patients through extensive, patient-friendly video documentation of cardiac treatments. The hospital recently received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care, and it is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Medical Center of Central Georgia (Macon, Ga.). Physicians at the Georgia Heart Center at the Medical Center of Central Georgia have a collective 50 years of experience in heart care and perform more than 750 heart surgeries annually. The Medical Center of Central Georgia also has an accredited chest pain center. The hospital recently earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and cardiac surgery.

Medical University Hospital of South Carolina (Charleston, S.C.). Medical University Hospital of South Carolina is the state's only full-service heart and vascular center and was home to the first heart transplant in South Carolina more than 20 years ago. Medical University Hospital is as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for excellence in heart attack treatment in 2013.

MedStar Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center. MedStar's cardiology team focuses on excellent diagnosis through imaging, electrophysiology, biopsy, heart scanning, nuclear cardiology and stress testing. MedStar Washington was recently named a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and was named one of the top 30 hospitals in the country for heart care by U.S. News & World Report in 2013-14.

Memorial Medical Center (Springfield, Ill.). Memorial Medical Center's heart care program includes a significant educational component for children in an attempt to make a lasting impact on heart health. The hospital was recently named a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care.

Mercy Medical Center (Des Moines, Iowa). The Iowa Heart Center at Mercy Medical Center started as a one-physician practice in 1970. and now sees more than 10,000 cardiac procedures performed annually. Mercy received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. Truven Health Analytics also named it one of its 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012.

 


 

Methodist Hospital of Southern California (Arcadia). Methodist Hospital of Southern California's cardiology program offers a new heart care support group called Mended Heart, which provides complimentary psychological resources for cardiac patients and providers. The center was one of 164 hospitals to earn The American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction designation for cardiac care.

Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, N.Y.). The Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care is committed to research and innovation and has been a hub of technological and procedural development, including advancements in surgical ventricular reconstruction and cardiac stem cell research. U.S. News & World Report named the hospital as one of the top 40 hospitals for cardiology and cardiac surgery in 2013-14.

Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center. The Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center offers individualized care, and its physicians perform the most open-heart surgeries of any hospital in New Jersey each year. It has an accredited chest pain center, is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care and was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

Mount Sinai Medical Center (New York City). Mount Sinai's heart center houses the largest cardiac catheterization laboratory in the country. The hospital's heart care team has a 99 percent success rate in mitral valve reconstruction. The hospital was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's top 15 hospitals for heart care in the United States.

Nebraska Methodist Hospital (Omaha). Methodist Cardiac and Vascular Center offers individualized comprehensive cardiac care. The center is widely awarded for excellence in outcomes and quality of care, as it was one of 165 hospitals to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care and is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

The Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha). The Nebraska Medical Center's heart and vascular program is the only one to have Joint Commission's "Gold Seal of Approval" in the state. The program includes a congestive heart failure program and a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program. The program has also earned recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

NewYork-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell (New York City). NewYork-Presbyterian's cardiologists have performed more heart transplants than any of those at any other hospital in the United States. NewYork-Presbyterian supports its cardiac care with a research-based heart disease prevention program. Among its many awards, the hospital was recently named as one of U.S. News & World Report's top hospitals for heart care.

North Kansas City (Mo.) Hospital. Cardiac care at North Kansas City Hospital includes full service cardiology and surgery. The hospital was one of 164 to earn the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award  in 2013 for high standards in heart attack care. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago). The Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital ranked number one in the Chicago area and number one in Illinois for the sixth straight year in U.S. News & World Report's 2013-14 rankings. The hospital was recently named as one of the top 15 hospitals in the country for heart care by U.S. News & World Report. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

NYU Langone Medical Center (New York City). NYU Langone's Cardiac and Vascular Institute offers full service cardiology and cardiac surgery, cardiovascular genetics and a women's heart center. It recently earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and cardiac surgery in 2013-14.

Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (Columbus). The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has been one of U.S. News & World Report's top hospitals overall for 21 years. The cardiology program emphasizes personalized medicine, and interdisciplinary partnerships within the medical center are designed to improve cardiac research, diagnosis and treatment. The hospital was recently named on the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and cardiac surgery in 2013-14.

Ochsner Medical Center (New Orleans). The John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute;s physicians performed the Gulf South's first heart transplant in 1970 and first percutaneous aortic valve replacement in 2010. The center recently earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and cardiac surgery. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (Baton Rouge, La.). Our Lady of the Lake offers the only level-three accredited chest pain center in south Louisiana, and its hybrid operating rooms allow minimally invasive and traditional surgical procedures to merge with advanced imaging technology. The hospital, a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, was also one of 164 to earn the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award in 2013 for high standards in heart attack care.

Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth (Texas). Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth prides itself on offering the fastest heart attack care in the city, and the hospital was one of 164 to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care in 2013. The hospital is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (Portland, Ohio). Providence Heart and Vascular Institute includes more than 80 specialists and surgeons with cardiology expertise. The institute was recognized for its excellence in heart attack care by the American College of Cardiology Foundation in 2013. Providence's heart team was the first in the state to implant a sapien aortic heart valve in 2012.

The Reading Hospital and Medical Center (West Reading, Penn.). The Miller Regional Heart Center at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center devotes itself to five key areas built on evidence-based guidelines: prevention, diagnosis, treatment, cardiac rehabilitation and supportive services. The hospital has earned recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Resurrection Medical Center (Chicago). Resurrection Medical Center was the first hospital in Illinois to receive accreditation for its chest pain center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The American College of Cardiology Foundation recently recognized Plaza Medical with its Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. The hospital is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Rex Hospital (Raleigh, N.C.). The Heart and Vascular Center at Rex Hospital is comprised of four specialty practices in Raleigh and surrounding areas. The hospital's heart attack survival statistics are the best in Wake County, and the program features an accredited chest pain center. The full-service program was recently recognized for high-quality heart care from The American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Riverside Medical Center (Kankakee, Ill.). Riverside's Medical Center's Riverside-Rush Center for Heart & Vascular Excellence has seen more than 2,600 open-heart surgeries and more than 20,000 catheterizations to date. The American College of Cardiology Foundation recently recognized the hospital with its Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). The heart and vascular programs at Rush University Medical Center include an outpatient chest pain center and specialty clinics for congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, heart failure and valve and vein treatment, along with tailored heart services at its Rush Heart Center for Women. Rush was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 30 hospitals for heart care for 2013-14.

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center (Hartford, Conn.). Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has the fastest door-to-balloon times in the state for heart failure patients. Saint Francis Hospital cares for approximately 7,000 patients through its women's heart program. The hospital recently earned recognitions for high-quality heart care from The American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Sanford Heart at Sanford Health moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility in 2011. The center offers a hybrid operating room, catheterization labs and space for more than 750 medical personnel. Sanford Heart recently earned recognition from The American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield for high-quality heart care.

Scripps La Jolla (Calif.) Hospitals and Clinics. Heart Care at Scripps La Jolla is the largest cardiac program in San Diego County. The center was named to the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery in 2013-14, and it is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Sentara Norfolk (Va.) General Hospital. Sentara Heart is in its 14th year as one of the top heart programs in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. The center also includes a pocket EKG screening program and total artificial heart services for patients awaiting heart transplants. Sentara Heart was named on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Shands at the University of Florida (Gainesville). The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Shands at the University of Florida offers hybrid lab services and outpatient care in addition to full service cardiac care and cardiac surgery. Often recognized for excellence, the center was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

 


 

Shannon Medical Center (San Angelo, Texas). Shannon Medical Center has long been an innovator, performing Concho Valley's first open-heart surgery in 1988. The American College of Cardiology Foundation recently recognized Shannon Medical Center with its Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care. The 400-bed hospital is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Shawnee Mission (Kansas) Medical Center. The Heart and Vascular Center at Shawnee Mission Medical Center subscribes to an interdisciplinary approach to heart care and includes an accredited chest pain center. The center recently earned American College of Cardiology Foundation recognition and was named a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Sparrow Hospital (Lansing, Mich.). The Cardiac Center of Excellence at Sparrow Hospital is the newest heart facility in the region. The program, focused on prevention, recently earned the American College of Cardiology Foundation's Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care and recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Cardiology at Spectrum Health Butterworth combines personalized medicine with specialty care and risk-education to achieve excellent cardiac outcomes. The program earned recognition as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care from Blue Cross Blue Shield and has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

St. Francis Hospital (Roslyn, N.Y.). The Heart Center at St. Francis Hospital is the only specialty designated cardiac center in New York state. It was recently home to clinical trials for drug eluting stents. The comprehensive cardiac center was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 10 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

St. Joseph Hospital–Orange (Calif.). The Heart and Vascular Center at St. Joseph Hospital-Orange was home to Orange County's first open-heart surgery in 1961 and is one of the only health centers in the county equipped to treat adult congenital heart defects today. It recently earned American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield recognition for excellence in heart care.

St. Luke's (Duluth, Minn.). St. Luke's Cardiology Associates takes pride in being supported by the latest evidence-based technology and techniques. The center recently earned recognition as a Blue Distinction Center from Blue Cross Blue Shield and it has also been recognized by the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

St. Luke's Hospital (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). St. Luke's has the first and largest cardiology practice in the Cedar Rapids region. The hospital has often been recognized for the quality of its heart care, including recognitions from Truven Health Analytics, the American College of Cardiology, The Joint Commission and Blue Cross Blue Shield. It recently received an award from the American College of Cardiology Foundation for outstanding heart attack care.

Stanford Hospital and Clinics (Palo Alto, Calif.). Stanford Hospital and Clinics' heart program prides itself on having excellent outcomes, despite serving lower income populations, and it offers emotional support and travel aid in addition to comprehensive cardiovascular care. It has earned many awards for exemplary heart care, including a place on the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 20 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

Stormont-Vail HealthCare (Topeka, Kan.). The Cotton O'Neil Heart Center at Stormont-Vail HealthCare has 15 outreach locations and has invested in high-resolution imaging at each of them to diagnose cardiac problems on location. Its high performance and adherence to treatment guidelines have earned it recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.  

Tacoma (Wash.) General Hospital-Allenmore. Multicare Regional Heart & Vascular Center, affiliated with Tacoma General Hospital-Allenmore, opened the first cardiac catheterization lab and was the first hospital to use a drug-coated stent in that region. The hospital is recognized for excellence in cardiac care, including recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Tampa General Hospital. The strength of Tampa General's cardiac care has led to its inclusion on U.S. News & World Report's list of the top 50 cardiac hospitals in the nation six consecutive times. The cardiac center includes six catheterization laboratories, six interventional radiology suites and hybrid operating rooms. The hospital was included on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (Houston). The Texas Heart Institute celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. The center includes an heart art gallery, a heart device museum and a heart library to complement its comprehensive heart care and heart surgery programs. The Texas Heart Institute earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report's list of the top 50 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery in 2013-14.

Trident Health – Trident Medical Center (Charleston, S.C.). The Heart Center at Trident Medical Center combines cardiac surgery with cardiac rehabilitation for excellent outcomes. It offers cardiac intensive care, complete with state-of-the-art monitoring systems to ensure the best outcomes for patients at any level of illness. The center has earned recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation for its heart care quality.

UC San Diego Medical Center. The Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center at UC San Diego Health System is the only academic heart center in San Diego. The center is heavily involved in clinical trials for at least 17 conditions. UC San Diego was named to Truven Health Analytics' 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2012 and U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology in 2013-14.

UCLA Medical Center (Los Angeles). All of UCLA Medical Center's cardiovascular care is offered at the new UCLA Cardiovascular Center. It features many specialized cardiac programs, including an advanced heart failure program, a congenital heart disease center and a cardiac arrhythmia center. It was recently named to the U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

University Hospitals Case Medical Center (Cleveland). The University Hospitals Case Medical Center offers heart care through its Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. The institute contains 11 centers of excellence for various heart-related specialties. The institute prides itself on the development of individualized treatment plans. It was recently named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology in 2013-14.

University of Kansas Hospital (Kansas City). The Center for Advanced Heart Care at the University of Kansas Hospital is a widely celebrated program attached to a research institute. The center is the only one in the region to have heart failure accreditation from the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium. It was named on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery in 2013-14. It is also a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for heart care.  

University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers (Ann Arbor). University of Michigan's Frankel Cardiovascular Center offers educational programs and fitness classes for cardiac rehabilitation, women's health, nutrition and eating habits, exercise and mindfulness. The center recently was named on U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care and heart surgery 2013-14.

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian. UPMC's division of cardiology is far-reaching, with 20 locations throughout Pennsylvania. It also has several specialized programs for women, cardiovascular genetics and advanced heart failure. Often recognized, the division was named one of U.S. News & World Report's top 30 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics (Madison). The Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Wisconsin includes more than 130 researchers, physicians and educators. It strives to create research around four themes: heart failure, arrhythmia, vascular biology and imaging. The center has earned recognition from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation for its heart care quality.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Vanderbilt Heart, Vanderbilt University Medical Center's cardiology branch, is an innovator in cardiac care. It is the first U.S. medical center conducting trials for glial growth factor 2, a drug to regrow heart muscle. The center was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for cardiology in 2013-14.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Winston-Salem, N.C.). The Heart Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health provides cardiac care through a regimen of personalized medicine. The center has received accolades from The Joint Commission, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealth, among other organizations. Most recently, the center was named to U.S. News & World Report's list of top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.

Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center (Kingsport, Tenn.). Wellmont's Level One Heart Attack Network, the only one of its kind in the region, exists to improve times for heart attack treatment across the region. The center offers full-service cardiac care and was recently selected as the top hospital in the country for interventional carotid care by CareChex. The center has earned recognition for its heart care quality from Blue Cross Blue Shield and the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

West Jefferson Medical Center (Marrero, La.). The Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Chest Pain Center at West Jefferson Medical Center is the first hospital in the region to offer round-the-clock emergency room heart care. The center recently was awarded a designation as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care from Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as recognition from the American College of Cardiology Foundation for excellent heart attack care.

Winchester (Va.) Medical Center. Winchester Medical Center's cardiology department includes accredited echocardiography, a vascular laboratory and nuclear cardiology services. The center was recently recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Additionally, the hospital received the Silver Performance Achievement Award for high standards in heart attack care from the American College of Cardiology Foundation.

Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital. The Heart and Vascular Center at Yale-New Haven treats the most heart and vascular patients of any hospital in Connecticut. Among the many awards it has received, the hospital was named to U.S. News & World Report's top 50 hospitals for heart care in 2013-14.
