Which medtech sector made the most deals last year? 12 statistics

Between July 2013 and June 2014, 105 medical technology company mergers and acquisitions were announced, with the majority of transactions occurring within the therapeutic device sector, according to Ernst & Young's 2014 report, "Pulse of the industry: Differentiating differently."

EY's annual assessments of medtech deal-making by market segment and disease area indicate deal volume in therapeutic devices has remained steady over the past several years, with roughly 50 percent of all mergers occurring in this space since July 2009.

According to the report, therapeutic devices' share of the total mergers and acquisitions dollars experienced a spike during the 12-month time period because of Medtronic's purchase of Covidien and Zimmer's purchase of Biomet. Therapeutic devices comprised 92 percent of total deal value in June 2014, up from 63 percent in June 2013.

The following list includes the percent of the total deal value of medtech mergers and acquisitions by market segment and disease area between July 2013 and June 2014, according to the report.
