Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Mount Airy, N.C.-based Northern Hospital of Surry County are partnering to provide residents with better access to cardiac rehabilitation services.

The services include exercise, education, counseling and learning programs designed to help patients with heart disease make the lifestyle changes necessary to lead healthier lives.

The Northern Hospital Foundation received a $250,000 grant from The Duke Endowment to construct the rehabilitation department.

"As one of the longest-standing cardiac rehabilitation programs, our team of experts has helped thousands of patients recover from heart attack, heart surgery and heart failure," said David Zhao, MD, executive director of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Heart and Vascular Center and chief of cardiology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. "We offer outpatient rehabilitation programs designed to help you improve your daily life and maintain your independence, and we are thankful for the partnership with Northern Hospital to offer this level of service to their community."
