Summa Health, Robinson Memorial in Ohio Won't Renew Affiliation

Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio, will let their affiliation agreement expire at the end of the year, according to an Akron Beacon Journal report.

The 280-bed Robinson Memorial is looking to convert to a non-profit hospital from its current county-owned status. The hospital would need to sign a new affiliation agreement with Summa Health, which has been in place since 2007, if the conversion is successful. Robinson Memorial plans to explore more partnerships with more hospitals and health systems, and officials have not ruled out affiliating with Summa Health again.

"Summa and Robinson mutually agreed not to allow the current agreement to automatically renew for a year," Robinson Memorial President and CEO Stephen Colecchi told the Beacon Journal. "We will give serious consideration to a continued affiliation with Summa."

Summa Health made headlines last week after it approved a letter of intent to create a strategic partnership with Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners.
