Salem Health Considers 7 Partnership Offers

Salem (Ore.) Health has received offers from seven different healthcare organizations to partner or merge, according to a Statesman Journal report.

Norman Gruber, president and CEO of Salem Health, told the Statesman Journal his system has been looking to conduct a transaction for two years now. He said Salem Health is considering the proposals not for financial reasons, but "because we want to be in front of the changes that are coming. We want to be able to pick a partner and not be forced into a partnership."

Salem Health will likely make a final decision within the next six months to a year, according to the report. The system's board of directors will first narrow its options to the best one or two offers.

Salem Health includes two acute-care hospitals: 454-bed Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital, a critical access hospital in Dallas, Ore. The system also is made up of Willamette Health Partners, a physician group with more than 50 providers.
