Rural Hospital Firm to Manage Cooper County Memorial Hospital

Staff -

Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, Mo., has signed a management agreement with Kansas City, Mo.-based Rural Community Hospitals of America, according to a Columbia Daily Tribune report.

The 32-bed, county-owned hospital has been struggling financially for several years, and its CEO, Allen Waldo, resigned last week for "personal" reasons. RCHA will submit a business plan to CCMH's board of trustees, which could determine if the hospital sticks with RCHA or another for-profit hospital operator for the long term, according to the report.

Previously, state legislators proposed bills that would've allowed Boone Hospital Center, an affiliate of St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare in Columbia, Mo., to partner with CCMH. That option still remains a possibility, according to the report.

RCHA manages and owns 12 other critical access hospitals. In January 2013, the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was previously named HMC/CAH Consolidated.
