Prime Healthcare continues aggressive growth strategy

Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services is pushing full force ahead on its growth strategy, announcing it completed the purchase of two hospitals and entered into an agreement to acquire another.

Prime Healthcare announced it finalized the acquisition of 202-bed Dallas Regional Medical Center, an acute-care hospital in Mesquite, Texas, and 281-bed Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala.

"We are pleased to welcome these facilities into the Prime Healthcare family," said Luis Leon, president of operations for Prime Healthcare.

Prime Healthcare has also announced it entered into an agreement to acquire Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Pa.

Under the agreement, Prime Healthcare has committed to invest at least $30 million in capital improvements in Mercy Suburban in the five years following the closing of the sale.

"The transaction will enhance the hospital's ability to provide high quality healthcare to its patients," said Susan Croushore, interim president and CEO of Mercy Suburban. "We are confident that the hospital will be well positioned to serve the community into the future."

Upon receiving regulatory approval, the deal between Prime Healthcare and Suburban Mercy is expected to take approximately four to six months to close.
