Pen Bay Healthcare, Waldo County Healthcare plan to merge: 3 things to know

Rockport, Maine-based Pen Bay Healthcare and Belfast, Maine-based Waldo County Healthcare have agreed to form a new parent company that will oversee hospitals and related organizations in Knox and Waldo counties, according to a Bangor Daily News report.

Here are three things to know about the new corporation.

1. The corporation would replace the Pen Bay and Waldo County Healthcare boards, which are currently separate, according to the report. The new corporation's board would have equal representation from both organizations.

2. The new organization would be a member of Portland-based MaineHealth.

3. MaineHealth said the partnership will allow the organizations and their medical staffs to continue working together to "develop integrated services and operations which will enhance patient care, improve the health of people in the communities they serve and control the rising cost of health care," according to the report.

The partnership still needs regulatory approval, according to the Bangor Daily News.
