Old Mercy hospital building could be used by Laredo Community College

Laredo (Texas) Community College is considering buying the old Mercy hospital building, according to a KGNS report.

The building, also in Laredo, has not been used in a number of years, according to the report. Now, the building's owner, Chendo Carranco, has suggested that LCC turn the building into a new nursing and engineering facility.

Mr. Carranco estimated that renovating the building, which has been vacant for nearly 15 years, would cost $40 million to $50 million.

After discussing the issue, as well as potential funding for it, the LCC board decided this week to assign consideration of the purchase to the building committee, according to the report.
