Mednax acquires Radiology Associates of South Florida

Mednax, a Sunrise, Fla.-based physician-led provider of healthcare solutions, acquired Radiology Associates of South Florida in Miami.

RASF is one of the nation's largest independent radiology groups with more than 70 physicians, the organizations said in a news release. Services offered by RASF at Coral Gables-based Baptist Health South Florida include diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology and vascular surgery. The group is led by Ricardo Cury, MD, who also is director of cardiac imaging at Baptist Hospital of Miami and Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida.

Dr. Cury said in the release the acquisition "will allow RASF to not only maintain and enhance the strong on-site physician footprint engaged in all the activities with our hospital partners, but will also provide the much needed information technology platform and remote technology to expand our after-hours coverage in an efficient and highly specialized manner." He added the acquisition also "will provide size and scale to expand our initial efforts with machine learning and artificial intelligence in radiology and a robust data analytics platform to ensure success in new payment models and prove the value of appropriate imaging to the care of patients."

The organizations did not release detailed terms of the transaction, except to say the deal "was a cash transaction and it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings." So far this year, Mednax has acquired seven physician group practices, including RASF.
