Louisiana, Ochsner Health System partner for free medical assistant training

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System and the Louisiana Workforce Commission are accepting applications for their free medical assistant training program in spring 2017, according to The Times-Picayune.

The certification program consists of accelerated classroom, clinical and hands-on training for participants to receive training as medical assistants. It also provides students with CPR training.

More than 100 people have completed the program since its inception in 2013. About 94 percent of graduates are employmed at the health system today.

The LWC and the River Parish Workforce Development Board cover the cost of the program.

To qualify, participants must retain a high school diploma or equivalent, successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check and commit to the 20-week program, according to the article. After completing the program, all graduates have the opportunity to interview for positions at Ochsner.
