KentuckyOne to spin off 4 hospitals, 4 ambulatory centers

Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health is seeking new owners and operators for more than 10 entities. The changes will ultimately leave KentuckyOne as a seven-hospital system.

The system, which is part of Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives, is working to identify new owners and operators for the following facilities and sites of care. It will continue operations and oversight of the following until ownership and operations are transferred:

1. Jewish Hospital
2. Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital
3. Jewish Hospital Shelbyville
4. Saint Joseph Martin (Ky.) (critical access hospital)
5. Medical Center Jewish East (ambulatory center)
6. Medical Center Jewish South (ambulatory center)
7. Medical Center Jewish Southwest (ambulatory center)
8. Medical Center Jewish Northeast (ambulatory center)
9. Frazier Rehab Institute
10. KentuckyOne Health Medical Group provider practices in Louisville and Martin

It will retain ownership and operations of the following facilities:

1. Our Lady of Peace
2. Flaget Memorial Hospital
3. Saint Joseph Hospital
4. Saint Joseph East
5. Saint Joseph Mount Sterling
6. Saint Joseph London
7. Saint Joseph Berea (critical access hospital)
8. Saint Joseph Jessamine (ambulatory center)
9. KentuckyOne Health Partners Clinically Integrated Network
10. KentuckyOne Health Medical Group provider practices in central and eastern Kentucky and Bardstown

"This decision has been made with great care and consideration. New owners and operators of the facilities outside of our central and eastern community focus will have the resources and ability to continue to deliver care, support employees and physicians and engage the community," said Ruth W. Brinkley, president and CEO of KentuckyOne Health. "We understand this will bring change and questions to our employees and community partners. We have an extensive transition program underway to ease the change and ensure focus on our priories to our patients and our partners."

It was reported earlier this month that KentuckyOne was dissolving employment contracts with approximately 25 physicians as early as July. Last month, it laid off nearly 150 employees, or 1 percent of its workforce.

KentuckyOne negotiated the spin off of University of Louisville Hospital this past December. Come July 1, University Medical Center in Louisville will resume management of the academic medical center and its affiliated cancer center.
