CHS to divest 2 South Carolina hospitals

Subsidiaries of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems have executed a definitive agreement to divest 59-bed Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw, S.C., and 102-bed Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville, S.C.

The ownership interest in those hospitals will be sold to M/C Healthcare, which is a subsidiary of Medical Properties Trust in Birmingham Ala., according to The Tennessean.

The transaction still requires regulatory approval and is expected to close in the next 60 days.

This news comes the same week that CHS finalized the sale of Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas, and Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala., to Prime Healthcare Services, based in Ontario, Calif.

Although CHS has recently offloaded several hospitals, it is also acquiring new ones. On March 3, CHS acquired full ownership of five hospitals in Oklahoma.
