Christ Hospital in New Jersey Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Staff -
In an effort to "maintain financial stability" and stay within the community as an acute-care facility, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a statement from the hospital.

The hospital's board of directors unanimously approved Chapter 11 reorganization last week after Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare withdrew its bid to purchase Christ Hospital and convert it to a for-profit entity.

Peter Kelly, president and CEO of Christ Hospital, said the hospital will continue to provide services in the community. "Christ Hospital has been a central part of Hudson County for nearly 140 years, and the residents of Hudson County should know that Christ Hospital will continue to fulfill its mission as a community healthcare provider," Mr. Kelly said in the statement.
