Bert Fish Medical Center in exclusive partnership talks with Florida Hospital

The board that oversees Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., has voted to only engage in partnership discussions with Florida Hospital in Tampa, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

In August 2013, Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates signed a letter of intent to enter into a long-term lease with Bert Fish. However, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems subsequently acquired HMA and called off the planned acquisition.

After the acquisition was cancelled, Bert Fish once again began seeking partners. In October of this year, Bert Fish announced Daytona Beach, Fla.-based Halifax Health Medical Center, Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla., and Florida Hospital had all submitted proposals to partner.

The Southeast Volusia Hospital District Board of Commissioners, the board appointed to oversee Bert Fish, voted 4-2 to enter into exclusive partnership negotiations with Florida Hospital, according to the News-Journal.

The two organizations will now move forward with finalizing the details of the transaction.
