Ascension Health Enters Negotiations to Sell St. Joseph, St. Mary's Medical Centers to HCA Midwest Health

St. Louis-based Ascension Health is negotiating with Kansas City, Mo.-based HCA Midwest Health System to sell St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City and St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo., as well as other subsidiaries of Kansas City-based Carondelet Health.

Carondelet Health is a member of Ascension Health.

According to Robert J. Henkel, FACHE, president and CEO of Ascension Health, the decision to enter negotiations followed a long period of review and discernment by Ascension and Carondelet Health. "This action supports our focus on providing a vital presence in the communities we serve, meaning we serve where we are needed how we are needed to be there," he said, according to the release.

If the negotiations lead to a sale, HCA Midwest has expressed a commitment to working with the local Diocese to preserve the Catholic heritage of St. Joseph and St. Mary's, according to the release.
