Allegiance Health explores partnership options after exclusivity agreement with UMHS expires

An exclusivity agreement requiring Allegiance Health in Jackson, Mich., to only be engaged in affiliation talks with the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor has expired, according to an mlive.com report.

On Dec. 3, 2013, the two systems signed a letter of intent to affiliate. Under the agreement, Allegiance  would become a member of UMHS, while UMHS would invest capital and expand clinical programs at Allegiance.

However, Allegiance officials sent a letter to hospital employees Dec. 8 informing them the board had allowed the exclusivity agreement with UMHS to expire and that Allegiance plans to continue to explore its partnership or affiliation options, which could still include a deal with UMHS, according to the report.
