26 hospital transactions and partnerships in July

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced in July, beginning with the most recent.

1. LifePoint seeks to expand footprint into South Carolina
Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health signed a letter of intent to acquire Columbia, S.C.-based Providence Hospitals, which includes two facilities and is part of Cleveland-based Sisters of Charity Health System.

2. Lancaster General Health to officially join UPenn Health System
Lancaster (Pa.) General Health will become a member of Penn Medicine, the parent organization of Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System, August 1.

3. Sentara Healthcare and Pratt Medical Center seal partnership deal
Woodbridge, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare and Fredericksburg, Va.-based Pratt Medical Center finalized a partnership agreement.

4. Capella to be sold for $900M: 5 things to know about the deal
Capella Holdings, the parent company of Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare, signed a definitive agreement for Birmingham, Ala.-based Medical Properties Trust to acquire Capella for $900 million in cash.

5. Ascension to acquire 4 Tennessee hospitals
St. Louis-based Ascension announced an agreement with Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare to acquire four hospitals in Tennessee that were jointly owned by Capella and Ascension's Tennessee ministry.

6. WellStar pursues deal to buy 5 Georgia hospitals from Tenet
Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System is in talks to buy Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare's five hospitals in Georgia.

7. Munson Healthcare to join forces with another Michigan system
Traverse City, Mich.-based Munson Healthcare partnered with St. Ignace, Mich.-based Mackinac Straits Health System.

8. Prime Healthcare signs letter of intent to acquire Southern Regional Medical Center: 3 things to know
Prime Healthcare Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, signed a letter of intent to acquire all assets of Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga.

9. NYU Langone pursuing merger with Lutheran Medical Center
NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City is moving forward with a full-asset merger with Lutheran Medical Center, which is also based in New York City.

10. Coffeyville Regional to pursue affiliation with Mercy Hospital Independence
The board of directors of Coffeyville (Kan.) Regional Medical Center voted to sign a letter of intent to affiliate with Mercy Hospital Independence (Kan.).

11. Daughters of Charity gets $250M capital injection from private equity firm
Los Altos, Calif.-based Daughters of Charity Health System selected BlueMountain Capital Management, a private investment firm, to manage and operate the system's six hospitals and medical foundation.

12. Yale New Haven Health System to absorb 2 hospitals
Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System entered into a definitive agreement to affiliate with L+M Healthcare, the parent organization of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., and Westerly (R.I.) Hospital.

13. Tenet, Dignity Health and Ascension ink definitive agreement for JV: 6 things to know
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, San Francisco-based Dignity Health and St. Louis-based Ascension signed a definitive agreement to create a partnership to own and operate Tucson, Ariz.-based Carondelet Health Network.

14. Barnabas Health, Robert Wood Johnson to merge: 5 things to know
Robert Wood Johnson Health System, which has flagship hospital campuses in New Brunswick, N.J., and Somerset, N.J., and Barnabas Health, based in Orange, N.J., signed a definitive agreement to merge, creating the largest health system in the state.

15. Eastern Long Island Hospital to join forces with Stony Brook University Hospital
The board of trustees of Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, N.Y., voted to affiliate with Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Hospital.

16. Equity Group Investments to take majority ownership in Ardent's hospital operations
Ventas — a real estate investment trust — reached a deal with Equity Group Investments, giving EQI a majority ownership of the hospital operations of Nashville, Tenn.-based Ardent Health Services, which Ventas agreed to buy earlier this year.

17. Mount St. Mary's, Catholic Health complete merger: 5 things to know
Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston, N.Y., became a full member of Catholic Health, which is a joint venture between Ascension, based in St. Louis, Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health and the Diocese of Buffalo.

18. Yale-New Haven Hospital announces partnership with Milford Hospital
Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital partnered with Milford (Conn.) Hospital to open the Yale-New Haven Hospital Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at Milford Hospital.

19. Day Kimball, Hartford HealthCare consider affiliation: 6 things to know
Putnam, Conn.-based Day Kimball Healthcare and Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare are exploring a strategic partnership that could lead to a formal affiliation.

20. Trinity Health expands network in New York
St. Joseph's Health, a nonprofit system based in Syracuse, N.Y., is now a member of Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health.

21. Good Samaritan Health System officially joins WellSpan
Good Samaritan Health System in Lebanon, Pa., finalized its partnership with WellSpan Health, based in York, Pa., after nearly a year of due diligence.

22. Washington Health System acquires hospital from RegionalCare Hospital Partners
Washington (Pa.) Health System completed its previously announced acquisition of Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg, Pa.

23. Capella to acquire hospitals from Ascension, expand network in 2 states
Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare signed letters of intent to acquire Pasco, Wash.-based Lourdes Health Network and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho, which are both currently part of St. Louis-based Ascension.

24. Baystate Health acquires another Massachusetts hospital
Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health acquired Westfield, Mass.-based Noble Hospital.

25. Penn State Health acquires St. Joseph Regional Health Network: 6 things to know
Reading, Pa.-based St. Joseph Regional Health Network, previously an affiliate of Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives, is now part of Penn State Health, a nonprofit organization based in Hershey, Pa.

26. 2 Iowa hospitals combine operations
Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines (Iowa) completed its acquisition of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa.
