CEO Knox Singleton: Decorated Leader of Inova Health System
J. Knox Singleton has served as CEO of Inova Health System in Falls Church, Va., since 1984, back when it was called the Fairfax Hospital Association.
Since Mr. Singleton has been at the helm of the system, Inova has expanded to include five hospitals and other care locations such as nursing homes, urgent care centers, a home health agency and community clinics, to name a few.
The system and its hospitals have been recognized for excellence under Mr. Singleton's leadership. In 2012, all of the system's hospitals were recognized by U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospital rankings. Collectively, Inova's hospitals have more than 13 Joint Commission accreditations and Gold Seals of Approval. In a recent post on his Inova blog, Opportunity Knox, Mr. Singleton expressed gratitude to his staff for bringing Inova to the level it is at today. "I know we all work hard every day…Our nurses, doctors, medical support staff — so many folks are giving it their very best. And it shows in the recognition we receive," he wrote.
Mr. Singleton has received many awards and recognitions himself for his dedication to improving healthcare delivery. In 2000, Mr. Singleton received the Regent's Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Washington chapter of the American Jewish Committee. In 2004, Virginia Gov. Mark Warner gave Mr. Singleton the Governor's Award for his leadership in business and education partnerships. More recently, Becker's Hospital Review placed Mr. Singleton on its 2012 list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
Mr. Singleton earned a master's degree in health administration from Duke University in Durham, N.C.
