What Are Physicians' Future Practice Plans?

Nearly half — 44 percent — of physicians older than 60 plan to retire in the next five years, according to the "2014 Work/Life Profiles of Today's U.S. Physicians" report by AMA Insurance.

Most younger physicians plan to continue practicing as they do now, but 36 percent of physicians younger than 60 plan to change employers in the next five years.

Despite the increasing trend of hospitals acquiring physician practices and employing physicians, very few — 8 percent — of all surveyed physicians plan to become hospital employed in the near future.
