What 10 Specialties Are Most Requested for Physician Searches?
From 2010-2011, 56 percent of Merritt Hawkins' search assignments were for hospitals, according to the Merritt Hawkins 2011 Review of Physician Recruiting Incentives.The following medical specialties were the most common search requests — not only from hospitals but also group settings, solo settings, associations and others.
Family practice: 27.5 percent
Internal medicine: 15.25 percent
Hospitalist: 8 percent
Psychiatry: 7 percent
Orthopedic surgery: 5 percent
Emergency medicine: 4.75 percent
OB/GYN: 4 percent
Neurology: 4 percent
General surgery: 3.5 percent
Pediatrics: 3.3 percent
