VA's Southeast Network turns to national recruitment

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Southeast Network, which serves veterans in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, is now recruiting nationally due to high executive turnover and physician and nurse shortages, according to The Augusta Chronicle.

The Southeast Network lost three VA directors in October. Robert Hamilton, the director of Augusta, Ga.-based Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, announced he will be stepping down Nov. 30. This follows the termination of James Talton, director of the Central Alabama VA Healthcare System in Montgomery, Ala., and John Goldman, director of the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Ga. Mr. Goldman's termination coincided with his retirement. Both dismissals were a result of the nationwide scandal in which VA hospitals manipulated records to obscure long wait times.

The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is actively recruiting for 90 positions, to fill specialist, physician, nurse and director vacancies, according to the report. VA spokeswoman Gina Jackson reported plans for a new national radio ad campaign, in addition to existing regional public service announcements, to aid recruitment efforts.
