Utah to open 2nd medical school

Parker, Colo.-based Rocky Vista University of Osteopathic Medicine is opening a branch in Ivins City, Utah, in August 2017, according to St. George News.

Details of the plan for Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine-Southern Utah were concealed until Tuesday under a nondisclosure agreement, according to the report.

The school plans to admit 125 to 150 students in its first class and subsequent classes, with capacity for 300 students. The second two years students will spend in residencies hosted by hospitals in the Rocky Mountain region, according to the report.

Accreditation hearings are set for December and construction on the state's second medical school is expected to begin early next year, according to the report.
